Review: Babar by Jean de Brunhoff

Hi everyone!!! :)

I hope you're having a great weekend.

Today I want to share with you my thoughts of this book:

28258450
this book contains the six books the author wrote:

35632183739342407502362817720502389

What is this book about? It's the story of Babar, an elephant, and his adventures. The books tells his story since he was born until he is an adult. You can see him grow and get married, have children and even meet Santa Claus. There is a book, Babar and Zephir, which is not about Babar, it's about Zephir the monkey.

My thoughts about this one:

I was really excited when I borrowed this book from the library. I had heard about Babar since I was little and I thought or I had read some of his stories or at least I had seen some cartoons about this character although I wasn't sure.

When I opened the book, I fell in love with the artwork. It's very unique and colorful. I liked the font, it was similar to handwriting and I know it's for children that they are starting reading can do it better, but I thought it was beautiful.

Now, about the first story, I think it was a bit rushed and made me feel uncomfortable. It jumped very quickly from one thing to another and also the things happened in this first book were a bit strange, such as Babar decides to buy a suit. I wasn't sure if I wanted to carry on reading the second story, but I decided to give it a go.

The second story was better so I kept reading. The 3rd, 4th and 5th stories, I think they are the best. The 6th one, which is the one Babar is with Santa Claus, disappointed me. I expected more.

Overall I thought the books was entertaining and easy to read.

My Rating: 3 stars

Review: Mary Poppins comes back by P.L. Travers

Hi everyone!!! :)

I hope you're well.

Today I want to share with you my thoughts of this book:

673662

What is this book about?: This book is about Mary Poppins, a special nanny who decides to take care of the children of an English family.

What I liked about this book:

This one is the second book in the Mary Poppins series and I found it more engaging and entertaining than the first one. I liked the first one(I gave it 3 stars), but in this one the adventures are explained with more detail and they are more complete.

When I started reading this book, I was in the perfect mood for this book, but I put it aside to read other books and that was a mistake. I was loving, but when I picked it again I wasn't enjoying like before :(

Still I liked and I gave 3 starts in Goodreads.

What I didn't like:

Some stories where similar to the first book, but with little differences.

Changes and Friday reads :)

Hi everyone!!! :)

I hope you're having a great day.

Today as you can tell I'm changing the design of my blog. Now and then I'm tired of the look of the blog and I want to change it. In my mind is crystal clear: I want it like other blogs I have seen that you see them and you fell in love with them. But, the reality is I'm not an expert  and I only can work with what blogger offers me, which sometimes is too much. I see soooo many fonts that I don't remember which one I like the best and since I change a lot of thing in the end I don't know which one is better when you read the blog.

Anyway, I hope you like how it looks the blog today :)

Also I want to share with you a video that I have made talking about what I'm going to read during the weekend. I hope you like it and I hope you like that I make videos. Sometimes, I feel like recording a video more than writing a post.

Books I mention:

The Tough Guide to Fantasyland by Diana Wynne Jones https://www.goodreads.com/book/show/1017905.The_Tough_Guide_to_Fantasyland

The rights of the reader (Comme un roman) by Daniel Pennac https://www.goodreads.com/book/show/4342215-the-rights-of-the-reader

It's Monday, What Are YOU Reading?

 badge
       hosted by: Book  Date

Hi everybody!!! :)

Today I want to show the books I'm currently reading which, by the way, are a lot. I am in a phase where I start everything and I don't finish anything. Today I hope to finish two of these books, no sure though.

16041219

La Boutique Obscure: 124 Dreams by Georges Perec. This book is a very original book where the author tells you his dreams. I'm almost done with it and I love it.

28143990

More Bad Karma by David Safier. This book is about two people, a man and a woman, who have a car accident and both die. They reincarnate in ants and the have to accumulate good karma if they want to become humans again. I love David Safier books, but this one, since I have changed in my taste of books, is talking me a while to finish it. I like it, but now I want to finish and still have 50 pages to finish it.

17617587

Jerks don't give flowers as a present (Los capullos no regalan flores) by Moderna de pueblo. This one is a graphic novel that I borrowed the other day from the library. I borrowed it because I have read other graphic novels by her and I liked them although I wasn't sure I was going to like this one. Fortunately I'm really enjoying it so far. It's about the jerks she met when she moved from village to the city.

1017905

The tough guide to fantasy land by Diana Wynne Jones. This book is like a dictionary, it has entries where the author explains to you concepts in fantasy. This book is hilarious, it's taking me a while to finish because of the vocabulary. The words she uses are hard for me because my level of English but also because I'm not used to reading fantasy, so I am not familiar with some terms and I need the dictionary to read this book.

4342215

The rights of the reader by Daniel Pennac. This book is about the rights the reader has, such as: the right of not reading, or not finishing  a book and things like that. This one is a re-read for me. This time, instead of reading in Spanish, which is my mother tongue, I'm reading in French, which is the language was written originally. I really enjoyed the first time and this time I'm enjoying too, but it's taking me a while to finish it because my level of French is low, but this is the reason I'm reading it, because I want to improve my French.

This is all the books I'm reading, let me know what you're reading :)

Review: How to be a good wife

Hi everyone!!! :)

I hope you are very well. Today I want to talk about this book:

 2728120

What is this book about? In this book a wife gives you advice from her own experience about how to be a good wife in the marriage and what to do or not as a wife. This book is supposed to be true, that it was made in order to give advice to newly married women in the 30s .

(I want to point out that my sister gave me this book as a present because I had recently got married and also because she wants me to have a good laugh reading it. This book was published in 1936 and the things are told in this book are so outdated that you can't help but laughing.)

My thoughts of this book:

This book was an interesting book. It made me laugh, it made me angry, but also I found it useful.

The advice can be useful in certain occasions. For instance, "if you are in a hotel and something goes wrong in your room , instead of complaining to a client, what you should do is going to the reception and explain your problem".

Other times the advice made me angry because it seemed to  me that the woman wasn't considered a person who could be intelligent or they could have her own job. For example: "if you meet another woman you shouldn't brag about your husband's intelligence or his success because maybe the other woman is not married to a man who is not as intelligent or successful as her husband".

And there were other times that I couldn't help but laughing.

Overall, I really enjoyed it and I was glad that some things that they are said in the book are not happening any more.

My rating: 4 starts

Review: The complete Peanuts, vol. 12: 1973-1974

Hi everybody!!! :)

Today I want talk about this book:

 6406160

What is this about? This one is a comic about a boy, his dog and his friends and all the situations and adventures that happen to them.

What I liked about this book.

The fact that it was really funny. I have a good laugh reading this book.

Also that I felt related. Even though it seems a book for children there are some topics such as depression, fit in the world and things like that they fall more in the adult department. I think children and adult would enjoy this book.

I really liked when Snoopy writes his short stories and novels. It's what I enjoyed the most.

You can read the book very quickly and you can read at the same time of a novel or just relaxing after reading a long book or a depressing book.

What I didn't like.

It was the comic strips about baseball. I thought it was because baseball is not part of my culture, so I have only some notions about how to play this game. But now I'm reading another volume of the complete Peanuts and I have to say that the baseball comic strips in that volume I find them really funny, so maybe the ones in this volume are not as funny as the others or at least I didn't find them funny. Not sure.
